Math 8 - Extra Credit :)
Even though (-4) ^0 and -4 ^0 look quite similar, they are completely different. Give the answer to each of the two expressions, and explain why the answers are different.
Leave a comment below (type your first name and last initial - no last names! - where it says Name/URL) that includes the following:
1. the period you have math
2. the solution to (-4) ^0
3. the solution to -4 ^0
4. the explanation telling why they are different. How do you arrive at the correct answer for each of the two expressions? Make sure that your explanation is thorough while trying to keep it relatively brief.
In order to receive the extra credit point, you must submit your response by 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 17. I will not be posting any of your responses until after that time. Good luck!

Algebra - Extra Credit Opportunity :)
Go to page 147 and look at problem 3 (Furniture)... Read the information in the problem and think about how you would solve it algebraically.
Leave a comment below (type your first name and last initial where it says Name/URL) that includes the following:
1. Identify the variable (what variable are you using, and what does it represent?).
2. Write the two-step equation that will help you solve this problem.
3. Give the solution (don't forget to label it, and make sure it is reasonable for what the problem is asking).
Do not include any of the work in your comment; do that on scratch paper. You don't need to use two different methods like the problem says. Your comment should include only the three things listed above.

Math 8 - Website Activity
I've gotten a few posts that were done incorrectly (wrong word, no last initial, wrong period, etc.). Check again to make sure that your comment posted and that your word in the gradebook changed to a score of 5. If it didn't, reread the directions and REPOST your word. This is due tomorrow for periods 2 and 3, and on Monday for periods 5 and 6. I will be collecting the paper in class. See you then!
(Scroll down to the Math 8 post from yesterday for practice with your squares and cubes!)

Math 8
As I told you in class today (or as you'll find out tomorrow), you have two quizzes coming up.
This Friday/Monday: quiz on the perfect squares #1-20 and perfect cubes #1-10. This is going to be a timed quiz (you'll have 1:45); you need to have these memorized as you won't have time to do the multiplication on the quiz. You probably already know the squares for #1-15, so there really aren't that many for you to memorize. I would suggest making flashcards and practicing until you can say them without hesitating (and be sure to keep mixing up your flashcards). You can also click here for extra practice (Scatter and Space Race are good choices).
Next Tuesday/Wednesday: quiz on turning repeating decimals into fractions. Most of you did well on the Unit 1 Test. Of all the problems, though, this type is what was missed the most. You'll be given two problems just like the problems on your "Palm Tree" worksheet. If you know how to do these, great - review them again and you should get an easy A. If you're still not sure how to do them, come see me during homeroom or brunch - you don't want to miss more quiz points.

Website Activity - Math 8
Because of the holiday yesterday, I had the due dates wrong for the Web Activity. It will be due one day later than what was originally posted. The new due dates are September 6 (A) and September 9 (B).
Many of you have already posted your word. Check to make sure that it posted and that I changed your word to a 5 in the gradebook. A few of you posted incorrectly, so you need to be sure to fix it prior to the due date. You'll turn in the completed paper to me on September 6/9.
Algebra - your due date hasn't changed. Yours is still due tomorrow (Wednesday 9/4)... :)
